Plate Rolling

We can take on a wide range of plate rolling and plate forming at Angle Ring, either using our customers free issue material or on a complete supply basis.

Our five plate rolling machines can process materials from 5mm thick up to 100mm thick in 3m wide plate, whilst our six plate forming machines can go even larger, in materials up to 200mm thick.

To add further value, a proportion of our range can even be pre-ended without an additional bending allowance to minimise waste, and can be supplied with flame cut or machined edge or end preps. In addition to this, our in-house welding service enables us to re-roll to tight tolerances prior to despatch, and join tubes with full penetration circumferential welds to achieve even longer lengths.

All of this means we can supply our customers with a range of finished options, from a rolled or prep roll supply, to bridge tack, or rolled and welded. We also have strong links with other local subcontractors who offer a full range of NDT operations, including radiography, ultrasonic testing, dye pen and MPI, as well as heat treatment operations, such as stress relieving, normalising and solution annealing.

Types of profile we can bend:

  • Plate forming up to 200mm thickness

Our largest machines can bend up to these maximum capacities:

  • 3,100mm wide
  • Plate rolling up to 100mm thick
  • Plate forming up to 200mm thick
  • Machining & Welding services also available

Plate Rolling is a suitable process for the following market sectors:

  • Architectural & Construction
  • Civils
  • Defence
  • Energy
  • Industrial
  • Manufacturing
  • Offshore

The Kelpies become the front runner as the largest public work of art in Scotland

One of Scotland’s largest visitor attractions, The Kelpies stand proud on the banks of the Forth & Clyde canal near Falkirk, with Angle Ring playing a key part in the production of the two 30m high horses heads that elegantly break out of the ground in the 350 hectare parkland in the central lowland region.

Designed as part of the Helix Project that transformed the landscape to create a vibrant park and visitor hotspot, the £41m project that opened in 2013 boasts 300 tonnes of intricate steelwork as it becomes the largest public work of art in Scotland.

Stunning helical staircase shows Angle Ring skills

Stunning helical staircase shows Angle Ring skills

With over 600 pieces of curved steel Wilkinson Eyre’s spiral staircase in London’s Wellcome Collection was one of the most complex bending projects undertaken by Angle Ring.

The concept of the dynamic helical stair was to create a free-flowing form, travelling from floor to floor without any visually intrusive supports and the £1.1million steel and glass spiral staircase does this elegantly, linking the foyer space to first floor galleries, and second floor library.
