Feature Steelwork for Local bus Station - Nov. 2002

Feature steelwork for the new West Bromwich bus station didn t have far to travel from Angle Ring who are based less than 10 miles away.

The main feature of the station is a 323mm diameter tube, curved in 3 dimensions to follow a spiral. The steel is designed as a focal point, but also houses security cameras to watch over the thousands of commuters who will walk past this modern sculpture each day.

Angle Ring has been curving steel to 3 dimensional profiles for many years, but recent tooling and machinery designed and built by Angle Ring now allow a range of Tubes, Beams, Channels and RHS to be spiralled as well as the traditional plate for spiral stringers.

Paul Middleton at Angle Ring states: This allows architects and engineers the freedom to design complex, free standing, structures for staircases, or feature steelwork in structural sections without the fear of expensive fabrication costs .
